The idea of a museum built by Von Vaber which is to reveal the history of Surabaya city as the birthplace. Cultural Institute presents an ultimately manifested in the form of museums.
Museum Mpu Tantular
These efforts pioneered by Von Vaber begins by collecting data systematically as a material book "OLD SURABAYA" (Old Surabaya). After the book can be issued, the next step is writing a book "NEW SURABAYA" (New Surabaya), published in 1933.
In order to maintain viability of the museum museums mpu Tantular placed under the Public Education Foundation. Next arose the initiative to submit this museum to the East Java Provincial Government. The inauguration took place on 1 November 1974. Furthermore, the State Museum of East Java is the name given to the location originally mpu Tantular streets Youth 3 Surabaya. Because the addition of the collection in mid-September - October 1975 this museum was moved to Jalan Surabaya 6 Mayangkara Park, which was inaugurated on August 12, 1977.
Former museum building consists of two parts, namely the front (main building) and the back (new building). The main building is used for permanent exhibition which is held in the new building on the floor in the East. The top floor is used for space and Space Administration Head Museum.
Downstairs at the new building west of the Laboratory for Conservation (Preparation) and the Temporary Exhibition Space, while at the upper part is used for library space and Auditorium Hall.
Mpu Tantular Museum building ex Surabaya is situated at. No Mayangkara Park. 6 Surabaya, has a strategic location, because it is located between Jalan Raya Darmo and Jalan Diponegoro and the location is across from the zoo in Surabaya.
