Basa Istano

Basa Istano more famous by the name Pagaruyung Palace is a palace located in Batusangkar, Tanah Datar District of West Sumatra. This palace is the famous cultural attractions in West Sumatra.

Basa Istano which stands now is actually a replica of the original. Istano original bases located on the Bukit Batu was Broken and burned down in a bloody riot in 1804. The palace was later rebuilt but burned again in 1966.

Basa Istano rebuilding process is done by laying the stump Tuo (main mast) on December 27, 1976 by Governor of West Sumatra (then Harun Zain). This new building footprint is not established in the old palace, but in the new location to the south. [1]. In the late 1970s, this palace has to be visited by the public.
